The building approval process in queensland can be quite complicated, as you are required to submit a number of documents to the local council, detailing exact building design plans and insurance policies. This can be a lot of hassle and may seem overwhelming if you haven’t dealt with it before.

What is a form 15 and 16?

A form 15 is needed prior to work of a construction for a design or product (since Nov 2006). The works need to be specified by a BSA licensee, competent person or supplier of the product.

A competent person will then complete a form 15 which confirms that the work completed under the certificate fully complies with the relevant building laws.

A form 16 is needed after the construction or design works have been completed. Here, an inspection of all relevant building works comply with the building approval and building laws.

Where do I start and what do I need to provide the engineer?

We require the drawings of the proposed building works from the architect or building designer. If you need help finding an architect or building designer to complete your drawings then we would be happy to assist you in finding the right person to suit the needs of your project.

Can I remove this wall?

To ensure the wall is removed safely we will need to come out and inspect it prior to removal. In some cases we may be required to provide you with a design for the safe removal of the wall.

Should I choose an owner builder as opposed to engaging a registered builder?

In our experience owner builders require more assistance along the way. We are happy to provide you with this assistance if required, however for larger builds we strongly recommend a builder is engaged.
